Everyone faces dilemmas in their lives, forks in the road that try to drown our souls, making us question the very life choices that made us who we are.
Such was not my predicament this weekend.
My husband woke up Saturday with the taste of orange chicken in his mouth. It was my fault really, for bringing home off-brand orange chicken a few weeks ago. I actually enjoyed it, loving that I had finally recovered some return to normalcy of my warped sense of taste from my covid encounter last year. My husband however, did not appreciate the tangy taste, and complained while eating his portion.
Fast forward to this weekend. We were headed into town, a rare occasion for us. Even rarer, we were planning on eating out, and my husband chose a restaurant where he could satisfy his orange chicken needs. We pulled into the parking lot, parked, walked up to the door, and were greeted with a sign that read, “Out of soy sauce, chopsticks, and fortune cookies.”
My husband’s face plummeted.
Because you see, when he eats orange chicken, he loves to add soy sauce to spice up the flavor. He can’t have it any other way. I tried to talk him into trying to eat without it, but he just knew it would be a waste of a meal.
Then an idea popped into my head.
“The grocery store is just down the way,” I said. “I was planning on stopping by later to pick up some tea, but let’s go now and you can get a bottle of soy sauce and you can bring it back to eat with.”
My husband, the frugal king, seemed a little embarrassed by my idea, but I talked him into it, so that’s what we did. He tried to find name-brand soy sauce at the grocery store too, but due to the stocking shortages had to settle with off-brand. Still it got him what he wanted: a delicious orange chicken meal just the way he liked.
Life is filled with lemons, some more bitter than others. In between those bitter lemons there will be moments of silly issues designed to bring forth a laugh. Roll with the punches, and look on the brighter side of things. Really that’s what these slice of life posts are about.
I hope something makes you laugh this week dear readers.
