There are so many platitudes and cheery sayings floating around this time of year. So much Christmas fakeness dampens all the good things that happen beneath. I’ve never been the biggest fan of this holiday, no secret, and my husband wanted to rectify this.
As you know, my husband and I recently installed our surround sound. So one weekend we were talking about the best holidays and of course my vote was for Halloween.
Then he got that gleam in his eye he normally reserved for projects. I was a little worried because he’d been threatening to put up a Christmas tree for some time now and thought this was the moment one was going to appear.
But no. Something more heinous was about to occur.
He turned on the television, turned on the surround sound, and fiddled with his phone. A big smile grew on his face as he cast a YouTube clip of hours of Christmas songs stitched together.
Not a big deal. I would go to my office and work.
But as I got up to leave, he wrapped his hands around me, gently drug me into the middle of the living room and had me dance with him to the Christmas music while whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
“Wouldn’t it be nice to have these songs play every weekend until Christmas? That would really get you into the spirit of things.”
“You are the snowflake that lands on my open sleigh ride.”
“Santa will come down my chimney to bring me extra presents for playing these songs.”
“Don’t you just love the cheeriness? Doesn’t it just brighten your day?”
I couldn’t help myself—I started laughing. We danced for a few more minutes, then he graciously released me to go work in my study while he listened to his holiday cheer.
Christmas may not be my favorite holiday, but there are some good memories to be made. Whatever your circumstances are this season, I hope you make some good memories as well.
Merry Christmas, dear readers.
P.S. Next week I will be posting on Wednesday to enjoy the holidays and have some time off. As I’ve said many times on this blog, breaks are important, and I hope you are able to enjoy your time off too.
